Heather Hartt-Sussman Bio
Â
Montreal-born, Los Angeles-based Heather Hartt-Sussman makes for a fascinating interview and her multi-award nominated children’s books belong on every shelf. She can speak about both the creative process and the business behind children’s publishing, and her work helping other kids book authors achieve their dreams.
Kids around the world know her as the author of eight charming children’s books (so far, her work has been translated into Danish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and French.) Published by Penguin Random House and Groundwood Books, House of Anansi Press and Fitzhenry & Whiteside; One of her books, Seamus’s Short Story, was on a list of “books to look out for” in Publishers Weekly, and another, Noni is Nervous was an Editors’ Choice selection in the Book Review section of the Sunday New York Times. Â
She’s also well known in the world of entertainment news media, where she has a long and impressive history with globally-known news media. She was a reporter and Assistant International Editor at The Hollywood Reporter in Los Angeles, Editor-In-Chief of International News for TV Guide/TV HEBDO in French Canada, where she was a columnist for the popular “Heather Hartt in Hollywood.” and she was also the host of E! Entertainment Television’s The Gossip Show. This was followed by a three-year stint as host of TV GUIDE TELEVISION, during which time she also contributed to several leading series, including INSIDE EDITION, EXTRA, HARD COPY, CANADA AM and appearances on CNN. In her career as a broadcast journalist, she interviewed legends such as Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Glen Close, Bette Midler, Nicholas Cage, and Jim Carrey.
But it was the world of children’s books that called her, and each of her books find their way into the hearts of young ones and their parents, alike. Â
But as much as she loves telling those stories, today, she says, “My passion is to help up-and-coming children’s book authors learn what it takes to write a picture book.’
